Artistic Differences

So I didn’t want to start watching American Horror Story because I’m already watching way too many shows and Ryan Murphy is troublesome.

But I kept hearing how certifiably insane the show is so I gave it a try.

Damn.

WTF is this? It’s like a mash-up of 15 different horror movies and it’s so addictive.

Seriously addictive. And awful and all over the place. And freaking hilarious.

There’s so much entertaining stuff going on. The thought of the husband sexing up one-eyed hag Frances Conroy (whom he sees as this hot maid from a fetish porn movie), Connie Britton going through a breakdown every other scene, psycho Chord Overstreet, the subplots that just keep piling up, the random bursts of sex that are almost hints at softcore porn, Vera Farmiga’s little sister and her Mean Girls on acid high school friends. I hope the sheer insanity of the whole thing is intentional because this is so good at being bad and it should stay this way.

The flashbacks are hysterical. The costumes, make-up, everything’s so over-the-top. And poor Sal Mineo’s murder, really Murphy, really?

Jessica Lange is genuinely good. Like, she’s batshit crazy but I think the character could have been even more over-the-top. She delivers just the right balance between campy, delusional, disturbingly sensual, insane and downright creepy. She hadn’t been this good in a very long time.

I’ll keep watching *sigh* I hope it never changes and that the 35 different plotlines get even more fucked up.

Also, Glee crossover. Please. Let’s get Mr. Shue in that house. He can get slaughtered by the monster in the basement and then the New Directions can sing about it.
